In our earlier blog post, we had discussed 5 precautionary tips to prevent the deadly flu. Here are some additional tips and preventive measures which will help you to keep your home environment safe from the flu virus:

Sanitize the surroundings
Disinfecting surfaces one of the simplest and most effective ways of preventing the flu at home. Doorknobs. TV and DVD remotes, game controls, countertops, mobile phones and computer keyboards are some of the most used items at home that carry both bacteria and viruses. Keep these items clean by wiping them frequently with a disinfectant.

Sanitize the bathroom
The bathroom is the most vulnerable area for the flu virus. Make sure to scrub, clean and disinfect the sink and faucets, door knobs, toilets and toilet seats, bath doors, bath and shower faucets and other accessories. Also disinfect and clean the common toothbrush holder, light switch and shower curtain.

Wash the linens thoroughly
The influenza virus can linger and subsist on linens for hours. Bedding and bath linens are easily infected especially when they are used by a sick person. Wash towels, clothes, pillowcases, blankets and bed sheets in a good quality detergent using hot water. Make sure to wash your hands after handling exposed linens.

If the air in your home is not clean, it can help spread the flu virus. A personal air purifier cleanses the air of airborne germs. Filterstream’s Air Tamer A310 and A302 air purifiers emit millions of healthy negative ions every second that push away airborne germs, bacteria and viruses away from your breathing space. They remove the smallest airborne microbes in the air that not only contain the flu virus but also pollens, dust mites and mold spores.

The AirTamer A310 is a proven air purifier you can use at home or outside. It creates a 3 foot sphere of cleaner, healthier air around your head that traditional air purifiers (such as HEPA) leave behind. You can wear the AirTamer A310 air purifier around your neck (strap included) since it is smaller than most MP3 players. Or you can place it freely on your nightstand so that the air around your pillow is clean and free of pollutants

By practicing these simple tips at home, you can help keep yourself and your family healthy and prevent the spread of the flu.
